Marty Krofft, co-creator of such popular children’s TV shows as “H.R. Pufnstuff” and “Land of the Lost,” died Saturday in California, it was announced in his late 30s. Harlan Boll did it. His age was 86 years.
Croft spent his life in kidney failure in Los Angeles with his established friends and family.
The producer, along with his brother Sid Croft, who became a favorite character from his live gigs, is known for creating children’s TV shows that touched on the 1970s across different generations.
The two were doing a puppet show when NBC asked them to create a Saturday morning children’s show. This became “H.R. Pufnstuf”, a favorite character from his live gigs.
“Its success spawned a feature film, which was produced with Universal Pictures as partner and distributor,” wrote his obituary.
Sid and Marty Krofft Pictures became a household name in the 1970s, spending more than 50 years creating and producing family and children’s shows. Ultimately, Marty Krofft was called the “King of Saturday Morning”.
Krofft and his brothers appeared on television shows such as “The Boogaloos”, “Lidsville”, “Sigmund and the Sea Monsters”, “Pryor’s Place”, “Far Out Space Nuts”, “The Lost Saucer”, “The Krofft Supershow”, “Wonderbug “, “Electra Woman and Diana Girl”, “Dr. Shrinker”, and “Bigfoot and Wildboy”.
Then in the mid-1980s, Croft and his brother created and produced the widely distributed “D.C. Follies”, featuring life-size puppets.
