Israel will take laborers from India for construction work, selection process will start from next week

A team of Israeli selectors visited India last week and now another senior delegation will leave for India next week. They will recruit thousands of workers in India to fill the huge shortage in the construction industry in Israel. A senior official of Israel Builders Association gave this information on Wednesday.
“We will start the process in Delhi and Chennai next week on December 27,” said Shay Puzner, deputy director general and spokesperson of the Israel Builders Association. At present we will take 10,000 people with the approval of the government and in future the number will increase to 30,000. This process may take months.

Selection process will start from next week

Puznar said that the selection process will start from next week, which will last for 10-15 days. The delegation led by Isaac Gurwitz is looking into labor issues and the selection team. He was in India last week and will come to India again next week along with other members and CEO Igal Slovik. Yehuda Morgenstern, Director General of the Ministry of Construction and Housing, will also join the team.

Speaking over telephone with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the process of moving workers from India to Israel. Last month, Puznar told the media, ‘We need more and more workers. Only this government will decide from where the missing laborers will come. Israel needs more and more laborers for construction work.

About 18,000 Indians work in Israel

The group of about 80,000 workers come from the Palestinian Authority-controlled West Bank and 17,000 from the Gaza Strip. At the same time, about 7,000 laborers come from China and 6,000 laborers come from Eastern Europe. Israel’s Economy Minister Nir Barkat, during his visit to India in April, had talked about hiring Indian workers.

About 18,000 Indians work in Israel. During the war, many of those Indians had decided to stay in Israel. In May, Israel signed an agreement with India, allowing 42,000 Indians to work in Israel.
